Raiders bounced back from midweek cup defeat in style as they thrashed Shrivenham 8-1 at Sixways in a game where new signing Manny Olaloko got his first for the club.
It took only five minutes for Raiders to have their first chance to open the scoring, Ethan Patterson with a looping header that bounced back off the bar.
It would be Shrivenham, however, that would take the lead as just 7 minutes – their first shot, Parsons would hammer a drive into the bottom corner.
Raiders responded in lightning fashion when two minutes later Richard Smith was there to meet a cross and head past the keeper. An excellent showing of character from the home side.
A seven-minute period of chaos occurred shortly after starting on the 22nd minute when Timmins headed in from close range for the lead, three minutes on it was three as Louis Monaghan made the most of an AWOL Shrivenham defence and looped a loose ball into the net.
This was new signing’s Manny Oluluko’s full debut and league debut, and he would be the one to complete the seven-minute spell when, after the Keeper decided he was a midfielder, he applied the finish into an empty net to make it 4-1 Raiders after only 29 minutes.
Just one minute before the whistle was due to blow for the break Luke Gaffney made it five when he was there to apply the finish after the ball was parried into his direction.
Arguably the pick of the bunch came as the last kick of the half when a corner on the right from Cooper evaded everyone and dropped into the net to make it six, yes SIX so Raiders went into the interval 6-1 ahead – not a bad first half!
Shrivenham had a chance to reduce the deficit two minutes into the second half but somehow it was blazed over the bar from about two yards out.
Cooper got his second of the afternoon a minute before the hour mark when he rounded the Shrivenham keeper before applying the finish leaving the Raiders winger on a hat-trick.
He should of got said hat-trick ten minutes before the 90 minute mark when he rounded the keeper and the ball was blocked on the line by what looked like an arm of a defender with everyone in the stadium spotting it except from the match officials.
It wouldn’t all be good for Raiders in the day, substitute Shay Willock received his marching orders for an off the ball incident with an opposition player.
Justice would be served by the last kick of the game from Cooper when he completed his hat-trick and got Raiders eighth of the afternoon – a record breaking score.
Raiders will look to build on the thrashing next Saturday when they return to Sixways and face Royal Wootton Bassett Town.
